What inspired you to join student government?
I was inspired to join student government after a chat with my SLA Karen, who told me student government would be a great place for me to use my voice to make changes.
In your own words, what does your role involve?
Being President means doing a bit of everything—from speaking up for student needs, to lending a hand when someone’s having a tough time, to handing out swag and having fun at events. In this role, you really do wear a lot of hats!
What are your top goals or priorities for the year?
I have a few goals this year, but my top goal for this year is to create more opportunities for students to get involved, build community, and have fun along the way.
If you could make one big change for students, what would it be?
If I had to choose one big change for students that I could make happen it would be to build a stronger sense of belonging by bringing students together more often, both in person and virtually, so no one feels like they’re going through college alone.
How do you plan to make that change happen?
To make this change happen I will be looking at planning more engaging sessions and reaching out to the student body for suggestions.
What’s your favourite thing about Northern Lakes College?
Besides the Students’ Association, I would have to say the sense of community the college gives when you enroll. As someone who came back to college after years of being out of school, not once did the college make me feel out of place.
Who or what inspires you as a leader?
I’m inspired to lead because I’ve seen how much of a difference it makes when someone feels supported and included. I want every student to feel they matter, to feel connected, and to know their voice counts.
How can people connect with you to share ideas or concerns?
If you want to connect with me to share ideas or concerns, please reach out to me via email at 193495@northernlakescollege.ca.
Share one fun or unexpected fact about yourself.
One fun fact about me is that I am a bookworm, even in the busiest times for me, you will always see me with a book reading.

What are your top goals or priorities for the year?

By advocating that funding needs to stop being decreased.
What’s your favourite thing about Northern Lakes College?
The feeling of being welcome when visiting other campuses
Who or what inspires you as a leader?
To make a positive impact

What inspired you to join student government?
The wonderful Tree Genowish saw how much I was engaging on the app when I first joined as a student and loved my enthusiasm and reached out and encouraged me to join! I had never considered student governance before, and didn’t really know what it entailed, and felt completely unqualified, but I’m so glad I did it!!
In your own words, what does your role involve?
Advocating for students to ensure that we are giving them all the tools possible to reach their goals – As well as organizing contests, events, and lots of other fun stuff!
What are your top goals or priorities for the year?
This year I really want to focus more on my health and make steps towards my vocational goals – I am taking myself off the backburner!
If you could make one big change for students, what would it be?
I would love to see improved, clearer guidelines and policies regarding AI use in the education field. I think there is a lot of room for improvement in communicating to students what is and isn’t appropriate use, as well as find better AI detection programs that can more accurately detect if and how it has been used.
How do you plan to make that change happen?
I want to start conversations with both students and faculty about the problems that both sides face, especially with AI detection programs that can be unreliable at times. I’d like to discuss what fairer guidelines could look like, using other schools and organizations with successful models as examples. My goal would be to make sure that we have fair and clear guidelines and policies that recognize the flaws present in detection programs, protect students from unwarranted suspicion and being unfairly penalized, and set clear expectations for students on how AI can (or can’t) be used responsibly.
What’s your favourite thing about Northern Lakes College?
I love how accessible the programs and leadership opportunities are! I live by the Lloydminster campus (pretty far from everyone else) and have been able to fully participate both as a student and in governance, fully online! There truly is room for everyone here.
Who or what inspires you as a leader?
Not to be corny, but my husband and family. They really are my biggest supporters, loudest cheerleaders, and encourage me to do the things that scare me.
How can people connect with you to share ideas or concerns?
The NLCSA would love to hear from students! You can speak to your campus representative if you have one, or email anyone in the Student’s Association, and we will be sure to get some conversations rolling!
Share one fun or unexpected fact about yourself.
I am great at predicting song tunes (and sometimes also words) and can often sing along to a song I am hearing for the very first time!

What inspired you to join student government?
I was first inspired by friends at my campus in Grouard to get involved with student government. Once I joined, I discovered how much I enjoyed advocating for students from different backgrounds and communities. That experience motivated me to continue being as involved as possible throughout my time at Northern Lakes College.
In your own words, what does your role involve?
My role involves establishing and maintaining connections across different campuses and institutions, while continuing to voice student concerns. I also provide my own insight and personal experiences to help improve student life and create a stronger sense of community.
What are your top goals or priorities for the year?
My main goal is to get more involved and build stronger relationships with other institutions. Strengthening those connections will create more opportunities for collaboration and help improve the overall student experience.
If you could make one big change for students, what would it be?
I would like to see more support services available for students. Adult learners often juggle school, work, and family responsibilities, and many struggle with asking for help. Having stronger, more accessible support systems would make a huge difference in helping students succeed.
How do you plan to make that change happen?
I plan to focus on raising awareness of the services that are already available and making sure students have the information they need to access them. By promoting resources more clearly and consistently, we can encourage more students to take advantage of the support that’s there for them.
What’s your favourite thing about Northern Lakes College?
I really enjoy the strong sense of community. With campuses spread across northern Alberta, NLC doesn’t feel like just one institution — it’s a network of connected communities. That structure makes it feel welcoming and inclusive, no matter which campus you’re part of.
Who or what inspires you as a leader?
My grandfather Albert has always been my inspiration. From a young age, as the oldest male in my maternal family, he taught me the importance of looking after my cousins — both older and younger. His guidance showed me that leadership is about responsibility, care, and leading by example for those around you.
How can people connect with you to share ideas or concerns?
I’m always available through social media and email. The easiest way to reach me is usually through Facebook, since I’m most responsive there, but I’ll do my best to reply quickly no matter the platform.
Share one fun or unexpected fact about yourself.
Outside of NLCSA, I work in vehicle sales and financing — which means I’ve helped people get into everything from family SUVs to trucks and even the occasional ATV. It’s always fun seeing the excitement when someone drives away in a vehicle that’s just right for them.
Our Mission
As the NLCSA, our mission is to create a safe and inclusive student environment by building positive relationships and providing essential programs and services that support success both in school and in life.
Our Vision
Students either online or campus communities are ensured concerns are voiced at the board level.
